Beginning a literature review often feels overwhelming. The volume of material can obscure priorities.I want a clear, realistic starting strategy.

From my experience supervising research projects, the best first step is narrowing the question, not collecting sources. I have seen students stall by reading too broadly. I would recommend identifying a small set of foundational texts, then mapping how later studies respond to them. This creates a scaffold for expansion and keeps the review analytical rather than encyclopedic.
