How rigorous is it to synthesize multiple studies produced by the same research team in a literature review?
Some fields are dominated by a few research teams. This raises concerns about bias and independence.I want to know how reviewers handle this situation responsibly.

From my experience reviewing systematic and narrative reviews, synthesizing work from the same team is acceptable but requires transparency. I have seen reviews weaken when a single group’s assumptions go unchallenged. I would recommend explicitly acknowledging authorship overlap and comparing findings with adjacent or contrasting work where possible. Rigor comes not from excluding such studies, but from critically situating them within the broader research landscape.
