The choice hinges on your study designs and review type. For RCTs, Cochrane's RoB 2 is the gold standard for bias assessment. For mixed or non-RCT designs (e.g., cohort, qualitative), Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) checklists provide design-specific criteria. CASP tools offer a good generalist alternative. The justification lies in using a validated, fit-for-purpose tool that directly assesses the methodological strengths and limitations affecting the validity of the studies you synthesize, thereby strengthening your review's conclusions.
