A protocol acts as an a priori blueprint, crucial for minimizing selection and confirmation bias. It pre-defines eligibility, search strategies, and synthesis methods, ensuring transparency and reproducibility. It should be registered on platforms like PROSPERO or Open Science Framework. Proceeding without one risks biased, unreproducible methods, duplication of effort, and undermines the review's scientific rigour and credibility for publication.
