To test a higher-order construct in AMOS, first validate the first-order measurement model. Then, specify the second-order factor by defining it as a latent variable that causally influences the first-order factors. Use the path diagram to connect the second-order factor to each first-order factor. Finally, assess the model fit indices and the significance/strength of the paths from the second-order to first-order factors to confirm the hierarchical structure. Indicator parceling is often used for complexity.
