Should students be meaningfully involved in the curriculum development process?

Student voice is increasingly emphasized in educational reform. I’m interested in understanding whether involving students improves relevance and learning outcomes .This question is particularly important for participatory and learner-centered models.

From my experience, student involvement is valuable when it is structured and purposeful. I have seen curricula improve when students contribute feedback on relevance, workload, and learning experiences. I would recommend involving students as consultants or co-design partners rather than final decision-makers. Their insights often reveal gaps faculty overlook, but academic coherence still requires disciplinary expertise. When done thoughtfully, student participation strengthens engagement without diluting academic rigor.
