How applicable is New Historicism when analyzing 21st-century historical fiction?
New Historicism emerged in a specific critical moment.Yet historical fiction continues to evolve in the 21st century.I’m curious whether this approach still offers analytical value today.

From my experience applying theory to modern texts, New Historicism still works, but it needs flexibility. I have seen it illuminate how contemporary historical fiction reflects present-day anxieties as much as past realities. I would recommend using it alongside newer perspectives, such as memory studies or trauma theory, to account for globalized and self-aware narratives. On its own, it can feel limited, but adapted thoughtfully, it remains productive.
