From my experience applying theory to modern texts, New Historicism still works, but it needs flexibility. I have seen it illuminate how contemporary historical fiction reflects present-day anxieties as much as past realities. I would recommend using it alongside newer perspectives, such as memory studies or trauma theory, to account for globalized and self-aware narratives. On its own, it can feel limited, but adapted thoughtfully, it remains productive.
