Can modern literary subjectivity be understood as an inverted form of Romanticism?

Romanticism foregrounded emotion, individuality, and interiority.Modern literature often presents fragmented or destabilized subjectivity.I want to know whether this represents rupture or inversion.

From my experience reading Romantic and modern texts comparatively, I have seen more continuity than opposition. Modern subjectivity often negates Romantic wholeness, yet it remains deeply invested in interior life. I would recommend thinking of modernism as Romanticism under pressure, where the self persists but loses coherence. This inversion reflects historical disillusionment rather than a rejection of inwardness itself.
