Where can one obtain a copy of a specific British historical document?

As a doctoral candidate in history, I've hit a common roadblock. My thesis references a specific British Admiralty report from the 1890s, but I only have a partial citation. I need to locate the full original. Could you point me toward the most reliable archives or digital portals for such a search?

I would always start with the UK National Archives' online catalogue. I've spent many hours there, and it's the central repository for central government records. If it's not there, consider specialized museums or institutional archives related to the document's subject like the Naval History Department for Admiralty papers. For digitized materials, platforms like JSTOR or British History Online can be invaluable. Be prepared to refine your search terms repeatedly; persistence is key in archival work.
