Does anyone specialize in Lombard history or know key works in this area?

I'm preparing for my comprehensive exams and need to solidify my core bibliography. I want to ensure I haven't missed any critical interpretations that form the bedrock of current understanding. These are the texts that shape all subsequent discussion.

Beyond the primary sources, you must engage with a few pivotal works. Start with Walter Pohl's "The Lombards" in the Peoples of Europe series it's the standard synthesis. Then, incorporate Chris Wickham's "Early Medieval Italy" for its masterful regional analysis, and "The Ostrogoths and Lombards" volume edited by Pohl. For law and society, Katherine Fischer Drew's translations and commentary are critical. I've seen these texts form the non-negotiable foundation for any serious doctoral work on the topic.
