Can ions pass through lipid bilayer

Someone please help me resolve my query. I want to know if ions can pass through lipid bilayer.

No, ions can’t cross this lipid bilayer on their own: they must be carried across by special proteins.

NO. Ions cannot pass through lipid bilayer because ions are polar. Because their entry gets restricted by the presence of hydrophobic tails. The fatty acid tails being non-polar in nature repel any polar or charged particle and hence don’t allow ions to enter the layer or escape out of it.
