Deep learning is powerful because it can find incredibly subtle patterns in massive datasets—something that overwhelms humans and simpler algorithms. Its prime uses are in advanced anomaly detection (spotting stealthy attacks in network traffic that don't match known signatures), malware classification (analyzing file behavior or code to identify new variants), and high-accuracy phishing detection (by examining the complex visual and textual features of a fake site). It's not a silver bullet, but it dramatically speeds up and improves the accuracy of finding novel threats.
