What were the highlights of the Plant Biology 2009 meeting?

I'm reconstructing the historical evolution of several plant signaling pathways. Knowing the major topics and breakthroughs discussed at pivotal meetings like the 2009 Plant Biology conference helps me map the timeline of ideas and identify which research threads were gaining momentum at that specific juncture.

Having attended that meeting, I can say the energy was palpable around a few key themes. The major highlight was the rapid advancement in systems biology approaches to model whole-plant physiology, which was quite novel then. There were also pivotal sessions on non-coding RNAs in plant development and robust discussions on early phenotyping technologies. I would recommend searching the “Plant Biology 2009 Abstracts” issue of the American Society of Plant Biologists journal for the precise presenters and talk titles that defined those discussions.
