in social research positivists prefer quantitative approaches like structured questionnaires, social surveys, and
official statistics as they have good reliability as well as representativeness.
Positivists believe that ‘social facts’ shape individual action and stresses the importance of performing
quantitative research in order to obtain an overview of society and to uncover social trends,
including the relationship between social class and educational achievement.
