How was the data synthesized‑ Is the process for grouping, categorizing, or thematizing results clearly explained?
As someone more familiar with quantitative meta-analysis, the synthesis process in qualitative or scoping reviews seems less defined. I'm asking this to grasp how experts move from a mountain of extracted data points to coherent, defensible groupings or themes. What constitutes a clear, logical description of this analytical journey in a methodology section?

This is where the intellectual heavy lifting occurs. I’ve advised students that a mere list of themes is insufficient. You must narrate the process. I would recommend stating the specific analytical framework used (e.g., thematic analysis, narrative synthesis) and then walking the reader through it: "Findings were initially grouped by concept X, then iteratively compared to develop broader themes Y and Z." Describe if you used software, how consensus on themes was reached, and how you handled contradictory data. The goal is to make your analytical path traceable.
