Is it required to send interview transcripts to the journal as appendices or otherwise and is it not needed?

I'm preparing my first qualitative paper for submission from my PhD. My university ethics committee has the transcripts, but I'm unsure of standard journal practice. I want to ensure my submission is complete and adheres to disciplinary norms without unnecessarily sharing sensitive data.

In my experience submitting and reviewing qualitative work, journals rarely require you to send full transcripts as appendices. The standard practice is to include rich, illustrative excerpts within the manuscript body itself. However, be prepared for reviewers to request excerpts of specific passages for verification during the peer review process. Always ensure your transcripts are meticulously anonymized. Some journals now encourage depositing anonymized transcripts in a trusted repository for transparency, but this is often optional. Check the specific author guidelines of your target journal first.
