Can external researchers contribute to the project in some capacity?
I'm drafting a proposal and want to ensure it invites meaningful external input. Specifically, I'm thinking about peer review of methodologies, sharing of comparative datasets, or guest lectures. Is it typical to outline these roles in the initial grant proposal, or are they developed organically as the project evolves?

Based on my work with consortia, I recommend being explicit about collaboration gateways in your funding proposal itself. Funders often look for this. I would suggest designating a section for "Open Science and Collaboration," where you list specific activities like dataset challenges, method validation workshops, or a visiting scholar program. I have seen that this proactive approach attracts serious collaborators early on. The key is to have a lead researcher, often a postdoc, dedicated to managing these external relationships and onboarding contributors efficiently.
