How should a final-year student select a viable topic in postmodern literature?

Postmodern literature covers a wide range of texts and theories.Students often struggle to narrow their interests into a project.I want practical advice on making a strong topic choice.

From my experience supervising final-year projects, the strongest topics emerge from tension rather than breadth. I have seen students succeed when they focus on one text, device, or problem rather than an entire movement. I would recommend identifying what genuinely confuses or excites you in postmodern writing, then framing that curiosity into a precise question. A narrow, well-argued topic almost always outperforms an ambitious but unfocused one.
