How reliable is literature when we treat it as a source of knowledge rather than just artistic expression?
In interdisciplinary research, literature is often cited beyond aesthetics.I’m interested in whether it can genuinely produce knowledge. This matters for how we justify using literary texts in research arguments.

From my experience supervising interdisciplinary work, literature is reliable in a different way than empirical data. I have seen novels and poems illuminate social realities, emotional truths, and ethical tensions that statistics simply miss. I would recommend treating literature as contextual and experiential knowledge rather than factual proof. Its strength lies in revealing perspectives and patterns of human experience, which can meaningfully complement—but not replace—other knowledge sources.
