Difference between single and multiple stage compressor

In single stage compressor, only one impeller is used. Whereas in multistage around 10 impellers are used. 
In single stage, impeller is placed at the non-driving end of the shaft and in multistage compressor it is placed between radial bearings.

Casing is used in centrifugal compressor to provide radial and axial support to the rotor. 
Casing are of two types. Horizontal and vertical split and is generally made of cast iron.

both single stage and multistage compressor works on the same principle. The only difference between them is the construction.
