Who actually uses a shared lab space or "biotech incubator"?

I see these "biotech incubators" offering rentable lab benches. Who are these for? Are they just for huge companies, or can smaller players actually use them?

They're a lifeline for the little guys! The main users are academic spin-offs, early-stage biotech startups, freelance scientists, and even grad students trying to turn their PhD research into a prototype. If you have a groundbreaking idea but zero capital to build a multi-million-dollar lab, these spaces provide the essential equipment, utilities, and—just as importantly—a collaborative environment and network to help translate pure research into a viable product.
