Which reference books are recommended for learning cancer biology?

I have a background in general cell biology, but now need to build a deep, structured understanding of oncogenesis, tumor microenvironment, and hallmarks of cancer. A trusted, comprehensive text would serve as my essential anchor as I navigate primary research literature.

Having mentored many new researchers, I always recommend starting with a solid conceptual framework. "The Biology of Cancer" by Robert A. Weinberg is indispensable; it's challenging but brilliantly explains the mechanistic principles. For a more accessible yet thorough introduction, "Cancer Biology" by Raymond W. Ruddon is excellent. I would also keep "Molecular Biology of the Cell" (Alberts et al.) nearby for core cellular context. Remember, no single book is perfect use these as scaffolds and constantly supplement with recent review articles, as the field evolves rapidly.
