Is the OpenStax introductory physics textbook suitable for teaching?

As an instructor designing a new calculus-based physics sequence, I'm evaluating open educational resources to ensure affordability without sacrificing depth. The OpenStax textbook is widely available, but I need to understand if its content structure and problem sets are robust enough to prepare students for advanced coursework and standardized exams, compared to traditional commercial textbooks.

Based on my experience using it in both large university lectures and smaller college settings, I would recommend the OpenStax introductory physics text as a solid primary resource, particularly for its accessibility and alignment with standard course sequences. I have seen it successfully build core conceptual understanding. However, for a rigorous calculus-based course, I often supplement it with more challenging problem sets from other sources to ensure students develop the analytical depth needed for upper-division work. Its greatest strength is removing cost barriers while providing a coherent foundation.
