What is the relationship between a journal’s prestige and the scientific quality of its articles?
Academic evaluation often relies heavily on journal rankings. However, quality seems uneven even in prestigious outlets.I want to understand how closely prestige and rigor actually align.

From my experience reviewing and publishing across journals, prestige is an imperfect proxy for quality. I have seen excellent work in lower-ranked outlets and flawed studies in elite journals. I would recommend treating journal reputation as a signal of visibility and selectivity, not guaranteed rigor. Quality ultimately depends on methodology, transparency, and critical review, which vary widely even within the same journal.
