What does Novalis mean by the term “Gezelte” in his poetic fragment?

Novalis frequently uses idiosyncratic language. The term “Gezelte” does not translate cleanly into modern German or English.I want to understand its poetic and philosophical resonance.

From my experience reading Novalis closely, “Gezelte” carries connotations of gathering, intimacy, and spiritual proximity rather than a fixed definition. I have seen scholars treat it as a relational concept, pointing to a shared inner space rather than a physical grouping. I would recommend reading the term contextually, not lexically. Its ambiguity is deliberate, inviting readers into the Romantic project of fusing language, thought, and transcendence.
