What are the key features and applications of aziridines in chemistry?

As I design new ligands and bioactive molecules, aziridines keep appearing in the literature as versatile intermediates. I understand they’re strained three-membered rings, but I’d like a clearer picture of their unique reactivity and where they offer real advantages over other epoxides or azetidines in synthesis and medicinal chemistry.

From my experience in synthetic methodology, aziridines are fascinating due to their high ring strain, which makes them exceptionally reactive electrophiles perfect for ring-opening reactions to install amino groups stereospecifically.
