From my experience, the central problem in sustainable development economics is reconciling economic growth with ecological limits. I have seen ongoing debates about whether growth can be decoupled from environmental harm. Key theses focus on intergenerational equity, valuing natural capital, and correcting market failures through policy. I would recommend approaching this field as inherently interdisciplinary, where economic models must integrate ecological realities and social justice concerns to remain relevant and credible.
