Is there established academic literature on the role of manufactured wood in sustainable development?
Manufactured or engineered wood is increasingly promoted as a sustainable material.I want to know whether this claim is well supported in academic research. This is relevant for construction, materials science, and sustainability studies.

From my experience reviewing sustainability and construction research, there is a strong and growing literature on manufactured wood. I have seen extensive work using life cycle assessment to show reduced embodied carbon compared to steel and concrete. I would recommend focusing on studies that link engineered wood to responsible forestry and long-term durability. The literature is generally positive, but it also highlights trade-offs related to sourcing, land use, and governance.
