Is capitalism fundamentally incompatible with sustainable development because it depends on continuous economic growth?
In sustainability debates, capitalism is often criticized for prioritizing growth over ecological limits.I am trying to assess whether this conflict is inherent or context-dependent.This question is important for framing theoretical and policy-oriented research.

From my experience engaging with both critical theory and policy debates, I have seen this question framed too rigidly. Capitalism, as practiced, often incentivizes growth at the expense of ecological limits, which creates real tensions with sustainability. However, I would not say the conflict is entirely inherent. I have seen regulated, welfare-oriented, and innovation-driven capitalist systems partially align with sustainability goals. The real issue lies in governance, incentives, and values, rather than growth alone.
