Can you explain the differences between green growth, sustainable development, green economy, circular economy, and Net Zero?

I often encounter these terms in environmental policy and research but find them confusing due to overlapping meanings. I want a clear explanation of how green growth, sustainable development, green economy, circular economy, and Net Zero differ, and how they are connected. Understanding this distinction is essential for accurate analysis in my research.

From my experience, these terms often overlap but have distinct focuses. I have seen green growth emphasize economic development with minimal environmental impact, while sustainable development balances ecological, social, and economic goals. The green economy centers on investments and industries promoting low-carbon, resource-efficient growth. Circular economy focuses specifically on designing out waste and reusing materials. Net Zero is a measurable target aiming to balance emissions with removal. I would recommend viewing them as complementary: sustainable development is the overarching goal, while the others provide strategies or targets to achieve it effectively.
