Insider vs. Outsider Cyber Threats: Which Does More Damage?
When a company gets hit with a cyber incident, does it matter more if it was started by an employee or an outsider? Is the impact fundamentally different?

 Research suggests it often is. While insider incidents are less common, they can be much more destructive because the person already has access and knows where the crown jewels are. This often leads to bigger financial losses or more sensitive data being exposed. That said, it's not always clear-cut—sophisticated external attacks (like state-sponsored ones) can also be catastrophic. So, comparing them directly is tricky and really depends on the specific context of the attack.
