Rajiv the most important aspect that needs to be considered while proofreading are: Pay attention to grammar – Grammatical errors are commonly committed by every single scholar while writing the dissertation. No matter how well-versed he/she is with the rules of English language he/she will definitely committee grammatical and punctuation errors. Hence pay close attention to such errors. Unstructured or missing sentences – Check for unstructured sentences and correct them. Also, unknowingly you might have missed out a few words or maybe even a few sentences here and there. Carefully go through your dissertation and look for such incomplete sentences.

There is a tool called grammarly. It can help you detect grammar, punctuation, spelling, and vocabulary errors. But manually you will have to go through the formatting and content consistency.
