How long until a new quality protocol actually shows results?

We're rolling out a new quality control protocol in our radiology department. Realistically, how long before we see measurable effects?

It depends on what you're measuring. Process improvements faster report turnaround, fewer repeated scans may show up in 3-6 months. Patient outcomes diagnostic accuracy, reduced missed findings typically take 12-24 months to accumulate enough data. Cultural change (staff embracing the protocol) can take even longer. Start with short-cycle audits for quick wins, but don't declare success or failure before at least a year. Quality improvement is a marathon, not a sprint. And the first mile is just warming up.
