For Discrete Mechanics: "Discrete Differential Geometry" by Bobenko & Suris, or "Nonlinear Dynamics and Chaos" by Strogatz for foundational concepts. For Optimal Control: "Dynamic Programming and Optimal Control" by Bertsekas is a comprehensive reference. "Optimal Control Theory: An Introduction" by Kirk is an excellent introductory text. For robotic applications, "Robot Dynamics and Control" by Spong includes relevant sections
