Which researchers and disciplines focus on identifying the drivers of environmental impact?

Environmental impact is often measured, but its underlying drivers seem dispersed across fields.I want to know which disciplines and researchers focus specifically on causation. This would help me position my own research more clearly.

From my experience reviewing interdisciplinary environmental research, the drivers of environmental impact are studied across economics, ecology, geography, and sociology. I have seen environmental economists focus on consumption and incentives, while ecologists examine biophysical pressures. I would recommend engaging with integrated frameworks such as IPAT and socio-ecological systems research. These approaches explicitly connect human behavior, technology, and institutions to environmental outcomes, offering a clearer causal understanding.
