Where can I find reliable academic resources about the history and culture of the Nyemba (Ngangela) people?

I am beginning an ethnographic study and need foundational resources. I'm looking for anthropological studies, historical accounts from the colonial and pre-colonial periods, and linguistic analyses of the Ngangela language. Finding focused material in English or Portuguese has been challenging.

For foundational resources, I recommend starting with the ethnographic work of Manuel Viegas Guerreiro and Merran McCulloch, whose mid-20th century studies, though dated, provide a baseline. For linguistic structure, seek analyses by scholars like Wilfrid Haacke. The most critical primary sources are in Portuguese colonial archives, especially the Arquivo Histórico Ultramarino in Lisbon. Modern academic output is limited; your best approach is to search university repositories in Angola (Agostinho Neto University) and South Africa. Also, consult the Ethnologue database for current linguistic references and map your study from these older works forward.
