Earth’s magnetic field originates from the geodynamo process, where the motion of conductive molten iron in the outer core generates electric currents that produce magnetic fields. Its variable nature arises from changes in these fluid motions, convection currents, and interactions with solar wind. Reversals of magnetic poles, secular variation, and magnetic anomalies are all part of this dynamic process. The field protects life by deflecting solar radiation and cosmic rays, while its fluctuations can influence satellite operations, navigation, and even atmospheric chemistry.
