What is the etiquette for submitting a manuscript to multiple journals simultaneously?
I'm impatient and want to submit my paper to three journals at once to increase my chances and speed. I've heard this is forbidden. Why is simultaneous submission unethical, and what is the proper way to handle sequential rejections?

Simultaneous submission is a major ethical violation. It wastes the time of editors and reviewers who are volunteering their expertise, and it risks the paper being accepted and published in two places, leading to retraction and damage to your reputation. The process is strictly sequential: submit to Journal A, await the decision (which could be "desk reject," "reject after review," or "revise and resubmit"). Only after a final rejection from Journal A do you submit to Journal B. This respects the peer review system. To manage time, have a ranked list of target journals ready. If you get a "revise and resubmit," you typically work with that journal, not jump ship. Patience and respect for the process are non-negotiable in academic publishing.
