From my experience working across literature and cultural theory, monster tales function as mirrors of social anxiety. I have seen monsters embody fears about outsiders, disease, technology, and moral transgression. I would recommend reading them as symbolic systems rather than escapist stories. Their endurance across cultures suggests they help societies negotiate boundaries between normal and abnormal, human and nonhuman, making them academically rich and culturally revealing.
