From my experience studying stratification, social mobility occurs when structural opportunities expand through education, labor markets, and policy. I have seen individual effort matter, but only within enabling social conditions. I would recommend avoiding purely merit-based explanations and focusing on institutions that distribute opportunities unevenly. Mobility is best understood as a product of social structure rather than personal achievement alone.
