What does it mean if certain high-frequency keywords appear in an isolated cluster, distant from the main network?

After running a keyword co-occurrence analysis for my thesis, my map shows one dense cluster far from the main network. It's statistically significant but disconnected. I'm unsure how to interpret this finding in terms of the field's cohesion or potential niche areas.

In my experience, an isolated cluster like that is a fascinating signal. It often represents one of two things: a highly specialized, self-referential niche within the field, or an emerging research front that hasn't yet been integrated into the mainstream discourse. I would recommend drilling into the actual publications in that cluster. Are they citing the core literature? The answer tells you if it's a fragmented sub-discipline or a truly novel frontier. It’s a prime candidate for identifying gaps or future synthesis opportunities.
