A combination of objective and subjective tools is usually used to assess fatigue in flight crew. Common methods include psychomotor vigilance tests (PVT) to measure alertness, subjective rating scales like the Karolinska Sleepiness Scale (KSS) and SAM. Actigraphy is often used to track sleep–wake patterns, while biomathematical fatigue models such as FAID or SAFTE help predict fatigue levels based on duty schedules and rest periods.
