Is the Idea of an ‘Exact Fantasy’ Coherent?

Although fantasy suggests freedom from constraint, an “exact fantasy” can describe a fictional world governed by strict internal logic. Works like Tolkien or hard science fiction show how imagination can be disciplined by coherence, rules, and systematic consistency.

An "exact fantasy" is a seeming contradiction—fantasy implies imagination unbounded by reality, while exactitude implies precision and constraint. However, it could describe a rigorously self-consistent fictional world with meticulously defined rules (e.g., Tolkien's legendarium, hard science fiction). It represents the imposition of logical or systematic form on the products of pure imagination.
