From my experience evaluating sustainability projects, technical expertise is necessary but rarely sufficient. I have seen technically sound solutions fail because social, political, or institutional factors were ignored. I would recommend treating expert knowledge as one input among many. Sustainability outcomes improve when technical insights are combined with local knowledge, stakeholder engagement, and adaptive governance. Expertise matters most when it is responsive to context rather than imposed as a universal solution.
