How can I find out if my institution has a fund to cover APCs?
I keep hearing about "institutional OA funds," but I don't know where to look. Who do I contact at my university, and what information do I need to provide to apply for this support?

Your first and best stop is your university library. Most have a dedicated "Scholarly Communications" or "Open Access" office or librarian. Check the library website for a page titled "Open Access Publishing Support" or "Article Processing Charge Fund." These funds often have eligibility criteria: you must be the corresponding author, the journal must be fully open access (not hybrid), and you may need to have exhausted grant funds. When you apply, you'll typically need to provide: the journal's acceptance letter, the invoice, a link to the journal's APC policy, and your grant numbers. Some funds are first-come, first-served, so apply as soon as you have acceptance. If there's no formal fund, ask your department chair or dean's office; they sometimes have discretionary funds for such purposes.
