Can we responsibly build a space economy while the planet is on fire?

Private companies are launching satellites like crazy, and we don't even have solid rules for space traffic yet. Add a worsening climate crisis on Earth is this whole space gold rush actually sustainable?

It's a real tension. The climate crisis makes us question every resource-intensive endeavor, and the governance gap in space means we're building a new economy without a rulebook. That's a recipe for conflict, debris, and inequity. But private innovation isn't the enemy; it's the engine. The question is whether we can build collaborative international frameworks fast enough to steer it. Sustainability isn't automatic. It requires urgent, deliberate design on Earth and in orbit.
