Are there studies dealing with forests and woodland management in the Early Modern period?

I'm investigating resource governance models and need robust historical case studies. Many studies focus on ecological decline, but I'm more interested in the institutional frameworks the ordinances, community practices, and conservation efforts that were attempted or implemented.

Absolutely. I would steer you towards the work of Paul Warde and John F. Richards, which expertly bridges ecology and political economy. Look into "The Great Divergence" debate literature; it often touches on resource constraints and management. For excellent regional case studies, search for scholarship on "L'économie de la forêt" in France or the "Holtgericht" systems in German territories. I've found these move decisively beyond simple deforestation narratives to analyze the complex, often communal, bureaucracies of wood.
