Are there examples of companies creating spin-offs with social or environmental missions?

I’m exploring hybrid organizational models where profit-driven firms intentionally create mission-oriented spin-offs.This is part of a broader interest in social innovation and corporate responsibility beyond traditional CSR.I’m particularly interested in cases where the spin-off has operational autonomy and measurable impact.

From my experience studying corporate innovation, I have seen several firms use spin-offs to protect social or environmental missions from short-term profit pressure. Large energy, food, and tech companies have created independent units focused on renewables, circular economy solutions, or inclusive finance. What matters is governance: successful cases grant autonomy while maintaining strategic alignment. I would recommend analyzing how incentives, leadership, and metrics differ from the parent company, because that’s where mission drift is either prevented or accelerated.
